I was informed that the Convention was Fantastic
by cantleave inby a girl at work.
i asked "what specifically?".
"the symposiums were great, each segment was short enough to keep you engaged" was the response.. my reply "so the wts is catering for the short attention span tv generation.".

I had a call from a JW whom I was close with, used it to weedle his way in as he knew from a buddy of his that we have not been to a meeting in 6 months. Wants to drop by and tell me all about it and just listen to me. He won't take no for an answer as I think he and his friend have made my family their pet "summer distraction from service" project. Its hard because he was a genuinely decent guy...
Blondie, thanks for the three pointers - I will use them...
BTW: I think some of you will find this amusing.....I have not served as an elder for almost 18 months and I had two calls in 24hrs to give a talk, one in a neighbouring congregation that has some very toxic (gossipers+slanderers) dubs!!! (I figured it must be satan...:))

Generation 'New Light' is Actually Working
by zoiks inas ridiculous as it seems to me and most of you, the infamous 'generation' update has every jw that i know in a tizzy.
they're all worked up about how 'exciting' it all is.
i just received a letter from my mom (she only communicates through letters now), and she brought it up - how they carefully explained it at the convention, and how it shows that we are so close to the end.. unbelievable.

Whoops!! to fast on the keyboard:
If this is so critical one would think that Jesus would have been very, very, very specific - "there will be a generation..." vs "this generation".
If I was there, it would have seemed quite clear to me....on the way home...."Hey Peter, our generation is going to see the things befall Jerusalem...yep...in one generation....what do you think Peter... 30 - 40 years tops?.....yep, no doubt"

Do You ENJOY The Holidays & Birthdays Now That You Can Celebrate Them?
by minimus inwhether it be father's day, mother's day, christmas or even a birthday, do you actually enjoy the celebrations, the spending of $$, and all that these festivities entail?.
or would you rather be a jw (just) for those times and not deal with it all?.

Despite being on a great fade (July1st deemed "inactive") I find it hard. I don't feel its wrong or right, just a damned numbness that prevents me from moving on. I got a fathers day card from my daughter for the 1st time since she was 8 years old, before we dove in head first....so sweet. Guess it will take time to get the Dub out of me...

0.7% isn't that a little shy of the natural growth of death/birth of a round 1%? Could this increase simply be a natural number of those family members that they now count - such as "counting a youngster provided she/he seems to be paying attention" - instructions I was always given. Also, how many of that number are really part of the large influx of Latino most congregations are experiencing in the US?

1) I now read my bible more than I ever did as a JW and I was an elder for 20 out of 25 years as a JW
2) I am not "codependent" on anyone - Ray simply warned that we should be wary of any organized religoin led by man
3) I do not and have not worshipped any person. To imply that those who read Ray's books are simply narrow-minded and draconian in viewpoint.
